Dr. Jan Mallett received her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Texas A&M-Commerce (TAMU-C) in 2014. During more than 30 years as a lower elementary Montessori guide in a large, urban public school district, she also consulted in the areas of Montessori education, new teacher orientation, and adult basic education. Additionally, she served as school director in a Montessori charter school system and as a lower elementary teacher in private schools for children with learning difficulties.


Dr. Mallett is currently a Research Assistant Professor at SMU teaching master-level graduate education classes on educational psychology, interpreting educational research, early literacy, and applied linguistics for the Department of Teaching and Learning. She coaches Montessori teachers in public, charter, and private schools locally and internationally. Recently, she presented professional development sessions to Montessori teachers in British Columbia, Canada and Oaxaca, Mexico. She is active on the Advisory Board of Lumin Education and is the Vice President of the Board of Paz Oaxaca. Her research interests include outcomes of Montessori education, Montessori education as a path for social justice, and effective early literacy methods.
