Dr. Mikael Lövkvist, Ph.D., has served psychiatric patients since 1997. He has worked as a board-certified dance/movement therapist, doctoral practicum psychotherapist, and activity therapist at various outpatient and inpatient hospital programs, as well as at a residential treatment facility for abused children. Dr. Lövkvist has extensive experience and expertise in working with patients suffering from depression, anxiety, psychosis, grief, addiction, and psychological trauma.

Dr. Lövkvist earned his B.Ed. at the University of South Australia, after which he taught at Swedish elementary, middle and high schools, and as a visiting Professor at Lund University. He later earned his M.A. in Dance Movement Therapy at the University of California, Los Angeles, and his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. His doctoral dissertation project studied psychotherapists’ and clients’ experiences of empathic resonance, as well as the nonverbal dynamics associated with these experiences.

Dr. Lövkvist currently works at the TMC Behavioral Health Center in Sherman, Texas. There, he has developed, and continues to co-create, an activity therapy program that promotes self awareness, compassion, embodied mindfulness practices, and the expressive arts.
