OLA Mission Statement
The mission of the Office of Legal Affairs (OLA) is to further the aims of Southern Methodist University by providing high quality legal service in a timely and professional manner. OLA provides legal advice on a broad range of topics including, but not limited to, employee relations and other human resource matters, real estate and commercial transactions, legislative and regulatory compliance, intellectual property, litigation, tax, policy development and preventive law matters. We represent the University’s interests by advising the Board of Trustees, University officers, administrators and staff acting as officers, agents or employees of SMU. OLA does not provide legal advice on personal legal matters. For personal legal advice, employees and students should consult a private attorney.
