The Friends of the SMU Libraries Grants Committee meets annually to review grant proposals submitted by the libraries. Grants benefit all of the SMU Libraries. The Friends awarded a total of $21,374 for 2019.

2019 Grant Highlight

$5,000 to the Norwick Center for Digital Solutions for transcription services for the “Voices of SMU” Oral History project

The History Department, SMU Archives, and the Norwick Center for Digital Solutions have partnered to create and support the "Voices of SMU" Oral History project to record oral history interviews with SMU alumni of color. The oral histories are stored in the SMU Archives and made available online in the Southern Methodist University Oral History and Digital Humanities Student Projects digital collection. Since the October 2018, the “Voices of SMU” oral histories have received 1,000+ views in the digital collection and on YouTube.


Library School Scholarship

The Friends of the SMU Libraries/Colophon has established an annual scholarship of $1,000 for SMU library full time staff members and student library employees who wish to become librarians. The Friends established this scholarship in the fall of 1998 and awarded the first scholarship in May 1999.
