PRESERVING THE PAST FOR THE FUTURE: A COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT FUND
The future of the AWSW lies in the acquisition of primary sources that document the experiences of women in the Southwest and our ability to provide researchers access to these materials. The successful Remember the Ladies! campaign provided funds for a full-time archivist; however, due to limited funding for collection development, many historically significant materials are unattainable. The DeGolyer Library seeks to raise funds annually designated for women's collection development – over $10,000 has been raised to date. The long-term goal is to raise at least $50,000 to sustain an acquisitions program. All gifts are important to our efforts to expand the collection. This fund will be used to purchase rare materials such as books, manuscripts, and photographs and to sponsor oral history projects. Acquiring significant collections through purchase will also help in attracting donations of other collections with research value. Thus, focusing on the quality of collections will ensure that the AWSW becomes a regional and perhaps nationally recognized women’s history collection.
