About Intersessions

Student Information

Intersessions provide students with additional options for pursuing their academic goals with focused learning opportunities in January, May, June, and July. Intersessions offer students scheduling flexibility and allow motivated students to use their “down time” productively.

Any SMU student in good standing may enroll directly from their my.SMU account.
Visiting/non-degree students are welcome by application.

SMU’s exceptional faculty offer a broad range of courses from across all five undergraduate schools.

Intersessions on SMU's Dallas campus help students:

  • accelerate degree completion
  • advance their academic standing/GPA
  • focus on only one or two courses at a time, typically in smaller class settings
  • build credentials to prepare for graduate school or a career
  • complete high-credit hour degree programs, including multiple majors or minors
  • graduate on time and on budget

SMU is sensitive to the financial challenges that accompany attending class outside of the typical fall/spring schedule. To help motivated students attain their goals, intersessions courses are offered at a reduced tuition rate. Enrolling in intersessions does not require payment of student fees, though specific courses may assess fees (e.g., lab or travel fees), and living on campus is an additional cost.
