Bitanya Dawit
Bitanya Dawit is a double major in finance and statistics at Southern Methodist University and proudly calls Houston, Texas home. As both a BBA Scholar and McNair Scholar, she is deeply passionate about academic research and leadership within her community. She currently serves as treasurer of the African Student Association, where she helps foster a sense of pride and unity among students of African descent. Bitanya played the violin for 15 years, participating in and winning numerous national competitions—an experience that taught her discipline, perseverance, and the joy of creative expression. In her free time, she loves exploring new dishes from different cultures, listening to Afrobeats, and curling up with a good romance novel. With a strong interest in both public policy and finance, Bitanya hopes to work in policy research with finance-focused think tanks or in energy investment banking in Washington, D.C. Ultimately, she aspires to return to Ethiopia and use her expertise to support and expand government financial assistance programs that empower communities and foster long-term development.
