Daniel Covert
Daniel is from San Antonio, Texas and is double majoring in History and Political Science with minors in Public Policy and International Affairs, Arabic, Africa and Middle East Studies, and Neuroscience. Along with being a Highland Capital Management Tower Scholar, he is also a President’s Scholar, a Pre-Law Scholar, a member of the University Honors Program, and a member of Alpha Lambda Delta and Alpha Chi National College Honor Society. Outside class, Daniel is the programming chair of the SMU Historical Society, the treasurer of the Rock Climbing Club, a club athlete on the SMU Men’s Rowing Team, and a member of Mustang EMS, Program Council, and Student Foundation. His main academic interests are state-building in Africa and the Middle East and US naval policy. He has interned with the Bridgeway Foundation, where he served as a data analyst investigating the Islamic State Central Africa Province on site in Kampala, Uganda. After graduating from SMU, Daniel intends to obtain a law degree and pursue a career as a foreign service officer or policy analyst.
