Mergers & Acquisitions

The SMU Cox Mergers & Acquisitions course will help you think from the perspective of an investment banker.

We’ve expanded and enhanced Mergers & Acquisitions to deliver even more. Through lectures, hands-on exercises and real-world case studies, you’ll learn how to determine the attractiveness and fit of a candidate and identify the drivers of acquisition success. You’ll master valuation techniques to test assumptions and get beneath cash-flow forecasts. You’ll take an in-depth look at capital structure, financing options and market response.

You’ll understand the tax implications of various tax structures—for both buyer and seller. You’ll learn how to plan and manage the due diligence process, negotiate effectively and recognize potential deal killers. Because M&A isn’t the only way to structure a winning deal, you’ll examine joint ventures, licensing agreements and other strategic alliances. To facilitate post-merger integration, you’ll learn best practices that position the new organization for success.
