Bachelor of Business Administration

  • How to Apply

  • BBA Admission Requirements

The majority of business majors enter the Cox School of Business in the spring of their sophomore year, after completing the Cox BBA admission requirements for current SMU students. Students may be admitted by this method from within SMU, or as transfer students from external institutions. To be admitted, students must have earned at least 39 academic hours and must earn a specified cumulative GPA upon completion of the business subset (a group of seven courses). Once a student is enrolled at SMU, all of the business subset courses must be completed at SMU. Our admission requirements are objective and every student who meets them will be admitted to the Cox undergraduate program!

    The business subset courses are:

    • Discernment & Discourse 1312
    • Discernment & Discourse 1313*
    • Economics 1311
    • Economics 1312
    • Calculus for Business and Social Science Math 1309/1337
    • Statistics 2301/2331 (or approved alternative course)
    • Accounting 2301

*DISC 1313 is not included in subset for those that entered SMU in fall 2014- summer 2016 terms.

  • SMU Application Deadlines

November 1st: Early Action and Early Decision I admission deadline.

January 15th: Regular Decision and Early Decision II admission deadline for priority consideration for merit-based scholarships.

  • Admission Events

The best way to find out if Cox is the right school for you is to visit us in Dallas. You can schedule an information session and tour through the SMU Undergraduate Admission website— these are scheduled throughout the year and include a Cox Information Session. In the Fall, we offer our Cox Spotlight visit day that will give you an in-depth look into our undergraduate program. If you can't make it to Dallas, meet us on the road when we join the SMU Undergraduate Admission Office at programs in various cities. We'd love to meet you!
