Dr. LaiYee Leong is a Fellow at SMU's John G. Tower Center for Political Studies. She’s also a Fellow at the SMU Center for Presidential History where she leads the oral history project “Post-9/11 US Policy in East and Southeast Asia.” Dr. Leong received her B.A. in English (magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) and Ph.D. in Political Science from Yale University. Her scholarship deals with Islamic groups and movements, democratization, and US foreign policy in Asia. Dr. Leong is the Associate Editor for the Southeast Asia section of #AsiaNow, the blog of the Association for Asian Studies. Dr. Leong is on the faculty of the SMU Graduate Liberal Studies program. She also teaches undergraduate courses on Islam and Politics, Movements and Protests, and the Politics of Southeast Asia.
