Inquire how to maximize student learning and development

SMU Student Affairs is committed to ensuring rigorous and effective assessment practices and demonstrating the outcomes of our work in comprehensive, compelling ways. Student Affairs Administration supports this commitment via a two-pronged approach which includes critical assessment planning and coordination at the divisional level and tailored assessment support at various unit-levels.

Student Affairs Highlights

The divisional highlights form is a central data and information collection tool for regular updates related to programs and services, student achievement, staff updates, and various other types of key information used to tell the story of the division. Members of the division are encouraged to submit highlight reports on a regular and ongoing basis as these submissions are used to populate periodic reports for various audiences.

Annual Reporting Expectations

The Division of Student Affairs follows an annual reporting plan that engages its members at office-, department-, unit-,and divisional-levels. Reports focus primarily on assessment of program outcomes and learning and development outcomes. Collectively these reporting expectations help drive outcome alignment, rigorous and ongoing assessment, and evidence-based decision making.

Assessment Consultation

Student Affairs Administration staff are available to consult on any of your assessment initiative needs—from big-picture planning to more specific assessment cycle-related tasks such as selecting a data collection method and developing related tools and instruments. Our department welcomes requests for assistance at any point in the assessment cycle.

Assessment Resources

In addition to formal consultation and assessment planning support, Student Affairs Administration has compiled resources that provide guidance about how to design and administer effective assessments at every step. Staff can visit the Definitive Online Space for SMU Student Affairs Assessment to access these resources as well as view repositories of divisional templates, past departmental reports, and ongoing assessment feedback.
