Orientation Information for New Parents and Families

Welcome to the Hilltop, all Parents, Families, and Guests!

We are excited to introduce you and your student to the academics, campus life, resources, and traditions SMU has to offer. New students will be asked to complete orientation, and we invite you to participate in your own orientation programming outlined below.


Campus Life Modules

This online orientation serves as a great, accessible way for both students and family members to learn about SMU’s services, resources, and important information before joining us on campus. Students must complete their Campus Life Modules, and families are highly encouraged to participate as it also has information specific to families.

Red, Blue, & YOU!

Join us for Red, Blue, & YOU! This podcast series will help students and families prepare for life on the Hilltop. Tune in to stay up-to-date on important information and tips life at SMU!

Parent and Family Programs at Stampede

We are in great anticipation for your arrival on campus! On January 12th, you are invited to attend in-person events, including an evening social at 5:00 p.m. hosted by Parent and Family Programs and the SMU Mothers’ and Dads’ Clubs, to ensure you feel connected to the SMU community. Events and times can be found on the Stampede page linked below.

Over the summer, we'll be adding to this list so please check back regularly in case additional questions come up for you! 
If you are a parent or family member attending orientation events, please email with your needs and we will work to ensure you are taken care of. Students should work through the Disability Accommodations and Success Strategies office
Students must complete their Campus Life Modules in order for the hold to be removed as this is a mandatory part of the orientation process. They will be able to track their progress in my.SMU once the modules open. 
Residence Life & Student Housing (RLSH) will communicate move-in information directly students at their SMU email account when it is available.
he PACC is only available if students have submitted their Health Form and proof of Meningitis vaccine which is why they may be experiencing a hold on their account. If they have already done that and just completed the Campus Life Modules, it may take a few days for the PACC to appear in Canvas.
