Renovation Details

Construction Began: May 20, 2019

Completed: August 19, 2019


Mane Course Renovations:

  1. Expansion from Express to full-service Chick-Fil-A
  2. Addition of Dallas-based restaurant, Cinco Taco, featuring made-to-order tacos

Varsity Renovations:

  1. Top-to-bottom renovation of the Varsity, the lower level dining and hangout space
  2. Changes include: new tile, new paint, new furniture, new lighting, and new audio/video equipment
  3. Addition of elevated, fully accessible gaming area with two pool tables and shuffledboard
  4. 8 big screen televisions throughout room

Construction Begins: December 21, 2019

Estimated Completion: End of Spring 2020 Semester

What's Included?

  • Entire 3rd floor of HTSC will be renovated
  • During the entirety of Phase Two, most Student Affairs staff who currently office on the 3rd floor will be relocated to "The Neighborhood" in the Ballrooms on the 1st floor.
  • The Forum and the Theater will remain open during the spring semester and are available to reserve.


For those looking for event venue options while HTSC is under construction, we recommend the following options:




Dr. Bob Smith Health Center Classroom

The first-floor classroom provides a venue for health education activities, and is available to the SMU community. The room seats 30 and is equipped with an electric drop-down screen, easy-to-move tables and chairs, a projector and whiteboard. To reserve the classroom, call 214-768- 3265 or email

Residence Life & Student Housing Classrooms

Classroom space is available between 8 am – 5 pm Monday – Friday. After 5 pm, classrooms are typically free for student use with limited exceptions. To reserve classrooms, contact Kim Bowker at

Dedman Center for Lifetime Sports

To reserve non-activity spaces (classrooms, studios, conference room) please complete the room reservation form. All reservations must be submitted a minimum of 5 business days before the scheduled event. To schedule a special event, please contact David Chambers ( to discuss space availability and event feasibility.
