The mission of Southern Methodist University is to create, expand and impart knowledge through teaching, research and service, shaping world changers who contribute to their communities and excel in their professions in a global society. Among its faculty, students and staff, the University will cultivate principled thought, develop intellectual skills and promote an environment emphasizing individual dignity and worth. SMU affirms its historical commitment to academic freedom and open inquiry, to moral and ethical values and to its United Methodist heritage.
In support of the University's mission, the Center for Faith & Learning in the Division of Student Affairs and the Office of the Chaplain is shaping leaders through faith. The Center's programming will align with the University's mission by supporting the development of principled, world-engaged, spiritually shaped and religiously informed leaders. The vision is to provide enrichment opportunities and resources for all SMU students, faculty and staff that encourage dialog and exploration of faith while integrating these experiences with academic pursuit, career interest and professional development. Working from the Christian tradition, the Center's non degree-granting programs encourage the involvement of the entire SMU community, including members of all faiths and belief systems.
