To Use Dedman Center:

1.     Must be an SMU Enrolled Student or Current Member (No guests or non-members permitted at this time);

2.     Must Present an SMU ID, Dedman Member Card, or government-issued photo ID (photo of a photo ID will NOT be accepted);

3.     Registration is required for Contact Tracing and Capacity Limits (See Facility Access Reservations Dropdown);

4.     Mask or Face-Covering worn properly at all times within building; and

5.     Observe Social Distancing (6 ft) at all times within building and exterior properties.

PRW enrolled students do NOT need a Facility Access Reservation but will need to provide SMU Student ID or government issued photo ID.

Specific facility spaces and permitted activities may have additional COVID Protocols and limited capacity (See Facility/Service Availability below).

Closing times will be strictly enforced to permit cleaning and disinfecting of the facility and contact tracing.

Family Recreation Hours:

  • Only minor children of existing Dedman Center members are permitted.
  • Minor Children are eligible for Facility Access Reservations during Family Recreation Hours Only.
  • Minor children must be registered as a Dependent with the parent member and an Annual Minor Membership to use the Dedman Center during Family Recreation Hours. Annual Minor Memberships are available through the Online Member Portal.
  • Minor Children Members must be accompanied by adult member at all times and not permitted in the weight room or use of fitness equipment.

Indoor pool capacity limits are 10 swimmers (2 per lane) on a first come, first serve basis.

Please keep swim time limited to 30 minutes.

Mask are required unless in the water and please social distance. 

At this time, Dedman Center is unable to provide towels. Please bring your own.

Socially distanced showers are available in the locker rooms.

A Facility Access Reservation (instructions below) will guarantee a spot within Operating Block Capacity Limits. Register for Reservation through Online Member Portal Only.  No in-person or phone registrations accepted.

Membership or SMU Student required to register for Facility Access Reservation.

Walk-Ins will NOT be accepted once Capacity Limits are reached.

To Register for a Facility Access Reservation:

Reservations are available 48 hours in advance and can be registered up to 1 minute prior to reservation start time.

  • Go to Dedman Center’s  Online Member Portal (Will open into a new tab.)
  • Select Login in the upper right corner.
  • Students and Employee members use SMU Login.  All others use Local account credentials

  • Select Facility Access Reservation icon.
  • Select Weekday or Weekend Facility Access Pass
  • Available times with remaining vacancies within 48 hours will appear.
  • If vacancies available, select the desired time and day.
  • Select the individual reserving the Facility Access Pass
  • Read and electronically sign COVID-19 Agreement then select Sign Now.
  • Read and acknowledge Student and Member Expectations and Standards by selecting Add to Cart.
  • In Shopping Cart, review Facility Access Pass Reservation details.
  • If incorrect or error, Remove from Cart.
  • If correct, select Check Out.
  • Confirm by selecting Check Out again.
  • The “Successful Registration” message will appear and a receipt will be sent to the email associated with your account.

To Cancel a Program or Facility Access Pass Reservation:

Cancellations can occur up to 1 minute prior to the reservation start time.

  • Login to the Dedman Center’s Online Member Portal
  • Select the Facility Access Cancellation icon on the main page.
  • Find the desired Facility Access Pass Reservation or program registration to cancel.
  • Click on the vertical dotted (3) line at the far right of the program or reservation.
  • Select Cancel Registration.
  • Confirm Cancellation.

Take personal responsibility for own safety and safety of others. The Dedman Center’s ability to be open and serve our community relies on each of us taking personal responsibility and following the guidelines and standards outlined below. If you are not willing or able to help us by following the standards and protocols outlined here, regardless of agreement, we ask that you refrain from visiting the Dedman Center.

Self-monitor for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 prior to visiting the Dedman Center.

  • If exhibiting signs or symptoms, do not visit the Dedman Center until symptom and fever free for 72 hours.
  • If tested positive or exposed to some testing positive for COVID-19, do not visit the Dedman Center for 14 days or retested negative for COVID-19.
  • If you are a population at high risk to COVID-19 or have concerns, please stay home and stay safe.

Mask is REQUIRED while on campus and in University buildings. Even while working out. SMU Campus Recreation and the Dedman Center will not provide masks.


Maintain social distancing from other individuals at all times.


Adhere to Capacity Limits for interior space (see Facility/ Services Availability).


Wash and disinfect hands frequently.


Gloves are not required but highly recommended.


Clean equipment and/or machines before and after each use and between each set.


·      Available to SMU Community with adherence to local and university mandates for social distancing at all times.


PRW academic classes have priority use of space and equipment during published class times.


·      Capacity Limit: 150

·      Facility Access Reservation required (See Facility Access).

·      Maintain social distancing of 6 feet at all times with all individuals.

·      Membership sales are online excluding a few exceptions.  Purchased may be conducted Monday-Friday between 11:30am-4:00pm 

·      No cash transactions will be accepted; credit card payments only.

·      Group exercise classes will require advance registration.  Late arrivals to class will not be accepted.

·      For your safety and the safety of our staff:

o   No Towel Service.  Please bring your own towels; towel services has been suspended.

o   No check-out equipment.  Please bring own equipment.

o   Water fountains have been disabled.  Please bring own water.

·      Personal Training by appointment ONLY. Contact your personal trainer to schedule an appointment. New clients will need to contact SMU Fitness for availability.

Fitness Floor/Weight Room

·      Capacity Limit: 100

·      Fitness Floor available on a first come, first serve basis.

·      Mask or face-covering is required while on the fitness floor, even while working out.

·      Limited machines and equipment available for social distancing. Extra cardio machines are available on Basketball Court 4 and Cardio Overlook.

·      NO Spotting permitted.

·      Social distancing is expected by everyone at all times.

·      Do NOT move benches or equipment from their designated areas.

·      Users are EXPECTED to clean equipment and machines before and after each use.

·      Stretching mats and individual workout equipment has been removed.

Courts: No competitive or team play permitted.

·      Basketball Courts: Limited to two (2) people per half court or goal. No competitive play or games.

·      Indoor Soccer Court: Limited to four (4) individuals and no competitive play or games.

·      Badminton: Limited to doubles (2) plays.

·      Racquetball/Squash: Limited to single (1) use only.

·      Outdoor Volleyball Courts: Limited to eight (8) per court for 4x4 play.  Mask is required when social distancing cannot be maintained.

Locker Rooms/Bathrooms

·      Bathrooms on all levels will be open for use as long as adhering to social distancing.

·      Locker Rooms will be open for changing as long as posted social distancing can be followed.

·      Showers will be disabled at this time.



·      Observe social distancing at all times.

·      Mask or face-covering is required.

·      Inside lane for walkers (slow)

·      Outside lane for runners (faster)

·      Middle lane closed to traffic and only to pass while maintaining social distancing.


Game Area

·      Available with own equipment and as long as social distancing can be observed..



·      Bouldering Wall available for use at your own risk and as long as social distancing and capacity limits can be adhered.

o   Maximum four climbers at one time while observing and maintaining physical distancing of 6 feet

o   No spotting allowed.

·      Climbing Wall will be available during published operational times (See Outdoor Adventures)

·      First come, first served basis not to surpass capacity limits.

·      Mask or face-covering is required.



·      Equipment reservations are required in advance.  No drop-in rentals.

·      Rental pick up will occur behind the Dedman Center (Mustang Circle) through the Outdoor Adventures garage.



·      Limited capacity of 40 people and adherence to social distancing.

·      Mask is not required as long as social distancing can be maintained.

·      Facility Access Reservation required.



·      Capacity Limit: 10 swimmers

·      Limited hours of operation and capacity limits (See Hours and Schedule page)

·      Check-in upon entry.

·      Capacity limited to two (2) swimmers per lane and two (2) people in shallow well.

·      Facility Access Reservation to Dedman is required and first come, first serve for swimming pool.
