Pooja Shivraj is a research assistant and a doctoral student at the Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education & Human Development at SMU. She is originally from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and moved to the US in 2002. She obtained her undergraduate degree at Austin College in Biochemistry and Mathematics in 2006. She has a M.S. degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Baylor College of Medicine and a M.Ed. degree from Southern Methodist University. She has also worked as a high school mathematics teacher and a UIL math and science coach. Her research interests include improving math education for high school students through the design of effective assessments and instructional strategies.
