Cost to Attend

Tuition

MLS/CAGS graduate students take advantage of the reduced SMU graduate tuition rate*.

Fall 2020 and Spring/Summer 2021: $725 per credit hour or $2,175 for a 3 credit course.

General Student Fees

Fall 2020/Spring 2021, the general student fee is $277 per credit hour. No student fees assessed for Summer 2021.

Financial Aid

Students who are admitted to a degree program (M.L.S.) and who enroll for a minimum of 6 hours in any one term may be eligible to apply for federal financial aid. Applicants may submit forms to financial aid before being accepted into the program. Students interested in applying for Direct Loans from the federal government can submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/.

The priority filing deadline for the summer term is March 1, fall term is April 1, and spring term is November 1.

***The FAFSA must be submitted at least 60 days before the first day of class.

COVID-19 TUITION ASSISTANCE: If you have suffered financial hardships related to the COVID-19 pandemic and feel that you circumstances warrant special attention, we are happy to review your case. Please complete the FAFSA application and submit a brief description (100-115 words) of your COVID-related circumstances as well --- e.g., a work furlough, lay-off, or reduced work opportunities if you are self-employed.

Scholarship

SMU Graduate Liberal Studies financial aid/scholarships are made possible by the generous support of the William and Dianne Moss Foundation, Sheila M. Glassford Fund, and individual donations.

All MLS and CAGS students who are registered or who are applying for the academic year are eligible to apply for limited scholarships based on BOTH need and merit. Additional scholarships are available for K-12 teachers.

GLS Community Leaders Scholarship

* For enrolled students in the Master of Liberal Studies and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study programs

Limited financial aid/scholarships based on BOTH financial need and merit are available to students in the Master of Liberal Studies and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study programs who wish to customize their graduate liberal studies coursework with the goal of increasing their impact in local, national, and international communities. Eligible students must have been accepted as degree candidates for the MLS program or Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study and may apply for scholarship funds to cover a portion of tuition for the coursework on a semester-by-semester basis.

GLS Interdisciplinary Educators Scholarship

* For elementary and secondary teachers in the Master of Liberal Studies and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study programs

Scholarships are available for K-12 teachers wishing to further their knowledge and enhance their roles as educators via interdisciplinary graduate coursework. Eligible teachers may apply for scholarship funds to cover full tuition for up to two courses of their choice in the Master of Liberal Studies or Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study program.
