David Bertrand, M.S.Ed., is a lecturer in the Applied Physiology & Wellness Department. He earned his Master’s degree in Health & Human Performance from Baylor University, with a special emphasis in Sport Pedagogy. David started teaching with SMU in 2007 and thoroughly enjoys sharing his passion for health and wellness with all students.

David’s interest & involvement in the endurance sports community spans over a decade. He is co-founder and head coach of a growing population called DFW Tri Club, an organization committed to improving the health & fitness of its members through offering coached, group workouts. David also enjoys teaching other coaches and created an institute for learning, DFW Tri Coaching School, aimed to add value to all endurance coaches & leaders across the nation.

David is a frequent speaker of various fitness, sports, and coaching topics at professional conferences across the nation. He speaks to non-profits, corporations, and fitness communities as well, leaving each audience with a message of inspiration and call to action. David is sought after for his experience in managing and coaching endurance athletes of all levels, and will be making speaking appearances this year at NSCA (National Strength & Conditioning Association) and USA Triathlon coaching conferences.

David Bertrand and his wife Nikki, live in the Lakewood neighborhood of Dallas and have two beautiful daughters, Annie and Tessa.
