Tina Barton is a passionate educator and designer, obsessed with improving experiences for people. She graduated with her BAE in Elementary Education from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA. She immediately began her career as a middle-school teacher supporting 6th-8th grade students as a reading specialist. Her curiosity about human behavior and systems drove her to seek out ways to improve student learning experiences and outcomes. She then spent some time outside of the classroom as an early childhood learning specialist focusing on social emotional learning for children and adults. She returned to the classroom to teach at the elementary level in Pullman, WA as a reading specialist and 3rd grade teacher, in both general and highly capable/gifted education, from 2012-2018.

Tina went on to earn her MA in Design and Innovation through the MADI program at SMU where she explored (and confirmed!) the potential for Human-Centered Design to positively impact the system of education and the experiences of its constituents. She has consulted as a design researcher in corporate settings, higher education, and the non-profit sector. Tina is currently working as the resident Design Research Strategist within RME to implement Human-Centered Design principles and practices into the educational research and assessment development processes.
