Jim Castleberry holds a Ph.D. in Human Services with a specialization in Criminology and a law degree. His research interests are in the study of mediation and conflict resolution and alternatives to traditional criminal justice systems such as restorative justice.

Jim’s professional background includes a combination of 23 years in the military in the Coast Guard and Navy Reserve. For the last twenty years, he served as a Staff Judge Advocate. He has served as a mediator with the Equal Employment and Opportunity Commission and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He currently serves as part of an Ombuds team at Walden University.

Jim has been an instructor for over 15 years teaching Sociology, Conflict Resolution and Mediation and Criminal Justice Studies. From 2015-2018, he served as a lead investigator for the MacArthur Foundation’s Safety and Justice Project. The work centered on a jail reduction project in several jurisdictions around the United States.
