Dr. David Deggs serves as Executive Director of College Access Programs in the Simmons School of Education and Human Development at Southern Methodist University. In this role, he is responsible for the oversight of the Upward Bound, Upward Bound Math Science, McNair Scholars, Talent Search, and College Knowledge programs. He is responsible for leadership and oversight of these programs that provide college preparation and transition assistance to students in Dallas area schools and academic support to McNair Scholars at SMU.
Dr. Deggs has nearly 20 years of experience in higher and adult education. He has held administrative and faculty positions at Kennesaw State University, Northwestern State University of Louisiana, Louisiana Department of Education, University of Arkansas, and GED Testing Service in Washington, D.C. He serves as an adjunct Professor in the Department of Education Policy and Leadership at SMU. His research interests focus on how social capital is manifested in communities to support or negate educational attainment.
He earned his Ph.D. in Adult and Human Resource Education in the School of Leadership and Human Resource Development at Louisiana State University. He earned both his M.Ed. in Adult and Continuing Education and his B.G.S. in Social Sciences from Northwestern State University of Louisiana.
