Second Century Campaign Volunteers

Mrs. Brookshire earned a B.B.A. degree from SMU in 1977 and an M.B.A. degree from the University of Louisiana at Monroe in 1981. She is a community volunteer and certified public accountant. She has chaired the SMU Annual Fund, served on the SMU Alumni Board of Directors, and currently serves on the Central University Libraries Executive Board and is a member of the Parent Leadership Council.

Tav Lupton is president of Lupshire Management Company Inc. and Lupshire Restoration Inc. He earned a B.A. degree from Washington and Lee University in 1975 and an M.B.A. from SMU in 1979. Mr. Lupton serves on the executive board of SMU’s Central University Libraries.

Frank Dunlevy is vice chairman of Cowen and Company, a growth-focused investment bank. In 1971 he received a B.B.A. degree in finance and marketing from SMU and in 1999 was recognized with the Cox School of Business Distinguished Alumni Award. Mr. Dunlevy is a member of the SMU Board of Trustees and serves on the executive boards of Dedman College and Cox School of Business.

David Miller is co-founder and partner of EnCap Investments L.P., a leading provider of private equity capital to the oil and gas industry. He earned B.B.A. and M.B.A. degrees from SMU and received the Cox School of Business Distinguished Alumni Award in 2000. Mr. Miller serves on the SMU Board of Trustees, the Cox School of Business Executive Board and the Maguire Energy Institute Advisory Board.

Kelly Compton serves as Executive Director of The Hoglund Foundation. She earned a B.B.A. degree from SMU in 1979. Ms. Compton currently serves on the SMU Board of Trustees and has chaired the Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Fred Hegi is the founding partner of Wingate Management, L.L.C., a private investment firm. He earned a B.B.A. degree from SMU in 1966, an M.B.A. degree from Harvard Business School in 1968 and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas in 1970. Dr. Hegi serves on the SMU Board of Trustees, the executive boards of Dedman College and the Lyle School of Engineering and on the advisory board of the Hegi Family Career Development Center.

Marilyn Augur is president of the Marilyn Augur Family Foundation. She serves on the board of WEHCO Media Company and is former president of North Texas Mountain Valley Water. She received a B.A. degree from the University of North Carolina in 1960 and an M.B.A. degree from SMU in 1989. Ms. Augur serves on the executive boards of the Cox School of Business and Dedman School of Law.

Ron Barger is general counsel for Archon Group, L.P., a subsidiary of The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc., that is an international, full-service commercial real estate investment management and mortgage loan company. He earned a B.S. degree from the University of Illinois in 1977 and a J.D. degree from SMU in 1981. Mr. Barger is a member of the Dedman School of Law Executive Board.

George Bramblett is the senior partner of the litigation section at the law firm of Haynes & Boone. He earned a B.A. degree in social science from SMU in 1963 and a J.D. degree from SMU in 1966. Mr. Bramblett is a member of the Dedman School of Law Executive Board and is chair of his class reunion.

Alan Feld is senior executive partner of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, L.L.P. He earned a B.A. degree in economics from SMU in 1957 and an LL.B. degree from SMU in 1960. Mr. Feld serves on the SMU Board of Trustees and the executive board of the Dedman School of Law. He received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Dedman School of Law in 1994.

Wayne Watts is senior executive vice president and general counsel of AT&T. Previously he served as vice president and associate general counsel. Before joining AT&T, he served as vice president and assistant general counsel for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. Mr. Watts received a J.D. from SMU and was involved in the legal clinic.

Philip Wise is a founder of Cienda Partners and president of Mission Holdings, Inc., a private investment company. He received a B.A. in political science and B.B.A. from SMU in 1978 and a J.D. degree from SMU in 1981. A former SMU student body president, Mr. Wise currently serves on the Dedman School of Law Executive Board.

Bobby Lyle is chairman, president and CEO of Lyco Holdings Inc. and a director of Hiland Partners. He earned a B.S. degree from Louisiana Polytechnic Institute in 1963, an M.S. in engineering administration from SMU in 1967 and an Ed.D. from the University of Massachusetts in 1976. Dr. Lyle received the SMU Distinguished Alumni Award in 1995 and joined the Lyle School of Engineering Hall of Leaders in 2006. He serves on the SMU Board of Trustees, the Cox School of Business and Lyle School of Engineering executive boards and the board of the Institute for the Study of Earth and Man.

Karen Shuford is a civic leader and a charitable trust consultant for the Bank of America private client group. She earned a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from SMU in 1970, becoming one of only two female graduates of the Lyle School of Engineering that year. Ms. Shuford received the SMU Distinguished Alumni Award in 2000. A member of the Lyle School of Engineering Executive Board, she joined the Lyle School of Engineering Hall of Leaders in 2008.

Linda Gibbons is an arts and civic leader in Dallas. She earned a B.A. in sociology from SMU in 1958 and received the University's Distinguished Alumni Award in 1998. A former member of the SMU Board of Trustees and president of the SMU Alumni Association, Ms. Gibbons serves on the executive board of Meadows School of the Arts.

John McFarland is co-founder and president of the investment advisory firm of Penn Davis McFarland, Inc. He earned B.A. and B.B.A. degrees from the Cox School of Business. A noted arts supporter, Mr. McFarland is a member of the Meadows School of the Arts Executive Board and was honored at the 2003 Meadows at the Meyerson concert.

Sarah Perot is a Dallas arts and cultural leader. She earned a B.F.A. degree in broadcast journalism from SMU in 1983. Mrs. Perot is a member of the SMU Board of Trustees and a member of the board of directors of the SMU Tower Center for Political Studies. She has served on the executive board of Meadows School of the Arts, the advisory panel of the Clements Center for Southwest Studies and as a member of the 21st Century Council.

Mrs. Crockett is Managing Director – Investments for Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management in Dallas. She earned an M.T.S. degree from Perkins School of Theology in 2003 and currently serves on the executive board of Perkins School of Theology.

The Reverend Michael McKee is senior minister at First United Methodist Church in Hurst, Texas. He received a B.A. degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1973 and an M.Div. degree from Perkins School of Theology in 1978. Rev. McKee serves as the chair of the Perkins School of Theology Executive Board.

Kay Yeager is vice president of the Perkins-Prothro Foundation. She is a former mayor of Wichita Falls, Texas, and serves on the executive board of Perkins School of Theology. Mrs. Yeager continues the seven-decade interest and involvement of her parents, both trustees, and grandparents, for whom the school was named.

Mr. Collins serves on several SMU Boards of Directors and is President of the Collins Family Foundation, Chairman of the Today Foundation and founder of Collins Academy. His philanthropic and political efforts continue his family's legacy of working to improve the community. He earned a B.B.A. degree in economics from Cox School of Business in 1969.

Mrs. O'Neill is a civic leader in Dallas, actively serving the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and Children's Medical Center Foundation, among other organizations. She earned a B.B.A. degree from Cox School of Business in 1977. Mrs. O'Neill is a former chair of the SMU Alumni Board and a former member of the SMU Board of Trustees. She currently serves as Vice Chair of the Executive Board of the Annette Caldwell Simmons School of Education and Human Development and is a member of the Executive Board of the Cox School of Business.

Denny Holman is Chairman of the Board of Folsom Properties, Inc. A member of the 1965, 1966 and 1967 Southwest Conference Championship Mustangs basketball team, he earned a B.B.A. in management science from SMU in 1967. Mr. Holman serves on the Cox School of Business Executive Board. He and his wife have long supported SMU.

Paul Loyd is founder and principal of Loyd & Associates. He earned a B.B.A. degree in economics from SMU in 1968. In 1999, SMU honored Mr. Loyd with the Foundation for the Future Award in recognition of his service and gifts to the University, including the establishment of the Paul B. Loyd, Jr. All-Sports Center. He is a member of the SMU Board of Trustees and the Cox School of Business Executive Board.

Mr. James is a college football analyst with ABC Sports and ESPN Sports and founder of Emerging Land Markets. He earned a B.A. in history from SMU in 1983. Mr. James was part of the famed Pony Express at SMU and was a member of the First Team All-Southwest Conference from 1980 to 1983. He has served on the boards of the SMU Athletic Forum and the Mustang Club.

Mr. Ware is president of Amarillo National Bank. He earned a B.B.A. degree in economics from SMU in 1968. A former member of the SMU Board of Trustees, he serves on the Executive Board of Dedman College and the Campaign Leadership Council. Mr. Ware also is a member of the Development and External Affairs Committee and Vice Chair of the Second Century Celebration Organizing Committee.

Ms. Wiksten is Associate Vice President for Operational Excellence in the recently established office of Operational Excellence for the Second Century (OE2C). Ensuring that the OE2C project remains on track, Ms. Wiksten oversees the initiative committees and manages continuous improvement opportunities. She has most recently served as Associate Vice President for Campus Services, among other positions at the University. She has served on many SMU committees and task forces, including those for major renovations and building projects.

Mrs. Flanagan earned a B.A. degree in art history from SMU in 1982. While at SMU she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Mrs. Flanagan has served as a member of her class reunion committee and is a current member of the Meadows School of the Arts Executive Board. She also is involved with charitable organizations in Atlanta, serving on the boards of the Atlanta Botanical Gardens and Chastain Therapeutic Horse Park. The Flanagans' son Casey is a senior at the Cox School of Business.

Martin Flanagan is president and CEO of INVESCO. He earned a B.B.A. degree and a B.A. degree in Ibero-American civilization from SMU in 1982. Mr. Flanagan serves on the Cox School of Business Executive Board.

Mrs. White received a B.A. in elementary education from SMU. She was a Rotunda Beauty, Pony Pal, a member of the Mam'selle's Modeling Squad and Chi Omega sorority. She is a former model with Kim Dawson in Dallas and David & Lee modeling agency in Chicago. Tessa, one of the Whites' four children, is a sophomore at SMU.

Mr. White is in investment management with William Blair & Company. He previously served as executive director and head of Consultant Relations for UBS Global Asset Management and as director of sales and marketing for NFJ Investment Group in Dallas. He received a B.A. in political science and B.F.A. in journalism from SMU and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and has been active for 15 years coaching soccer with the American Youth Soccer Organization. The Whites have four children.

Leslie Wilson earned a B.A. from SMU, which she attended on a music scholarship, and is serving in her third term as a member of the Executive Board of Meadows School of the Arts. She serves as a member of the Associates and Affiliates Board of Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, which oversees all local fundraising guilds in the Los Angeles area. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority at SMU. One of Mrs. Wilson's children, Royce Edrice Wilson Jr. '09, is an SMU alumnus.

Mr. Wilson is President of Tribune Broadcasting, with responsibility for overseeing 23 television stations, Superstation WGN, Tribune Entertainment and WGN Radio. Prior to joining Tribune, he served as president of Fox Television Network, where he supervised all business aspects of the network, and in executive positions with NBC and CBS. Mr. Wilson was appointed to the SMU Board of Trustees in 2008. One of his children, Royce Edrice Wilson Jr. '09, is an SMU alumnus.

Mrs. Armstrong received a B.S. degree in geology from SMU, was a member of the student chapter of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, served as treasurer of Pi Beta Phi sorority and was an AARO leader. She has served on the Dedman College Executive Board and is currently a member of the Executive Board for SMU-in-Taos. She and her husband, William D. Armstrong '82, served as chairs of the Parent Leadership Council and recently provided lead funding for the Armstrong Residential Commons, part of the new residential commons complex that will be constructed on campus to expand and enhance the student residential and learning experience.

Mr. Armstrong is owner and president of Armstrong Oil & Gas, Inc. He and his wife, Elisabeth Martin Armstrong '82, are vintners of Epoch Estates Wines. They both also served as chairs of SMU's Parent Leadership Council. Mr. Armstong received a B.S. degree in geology from SMU and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He was a member of SMU's Honor Council, served as president of the SMU chapter of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He serves on the board of the Denver Art Museum and is a member of the All American Wildcatters. Two of the Armstrongs' three children currently attend SMU.

Mr. Head is a partner of the Fort Worth, Texas, office of Jackson Walker, L.L.P. He received the 2010 Silver Anniversary Mustang Award presented by the SMU Lettermen’s Association. In addition to serving as co-chair of The Second Century Campaign Steering Committee for Fort Worth, he also serves on the campaign steering committees for the Dedman School of Law and for Campus and Student Life. He has served on a number of other University boards and committees, including the Board of Trustees from 1999 through 2000.  Mr. Head and his wife, Debbie, have five children, two of whom attended SMU.

Mr. Tatum is a partner with Cantey and Hanger, LLP. He served as chair of Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital-Fort Worth and is currently a trustee of Harris Methodist Hospital-Fort Worth. While at SMU, Mr. Tatum lettered in men’s soccer and received his undergraduate degree in anthropology and went on to graduate from the University of Texas School of Law in 1979. He and his wife, Nenetta, have two grown children.

Scott McLean is CEO of Amegy Bank of Texas. He earned a B.B.A. degree from SMU in 1978 and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University in 1979. He was an ex-officio member of SMU's Board of Trustees in 1996-97 due to his service as president of the SMU Alumni Association during that academic year.

Mr. Murphree is principal of Murphree Venture Partners. He earned a B.A. degree in economics from SMU in 1969 and an M.B.A. from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1971. A former member of SMU's Board of Trustees and Alumni Board, Mr. Murphree serves on the Dedman College Executive Board, and the SMU-in-Taos Executive Board.

Mrs. Palley formerly served as a partner in an Orange County, California, interior design firm specializing in model homes. She has spent the past 18 years volunteering on numerous boards, has served on the steering committee for two private school capital campaigns and twice chaired the Newport Beach Antiques Show. Currently she is a partner in a custom-made jewelry firm. Of Mrs. Palley's three children, Stuart graduated from SMU in 2011 and Rennick will graduate in 2012.

Mr. Palley is managing director of equity investments with First Foundation Advisors in Irvine, California. He received a B.S. degree in business administration in 1964 from the University of Denver, an M.S. degree in finance in 1974 from California State University, Long Beach and an M.A. degree in accounting in 1977 from the University of Southern California. In addition to serving on many charitable committees, he is a former trustee of the South Coast Repertory Theatre and former board chair of The Pegasus School in Orange County. Of his three children, Stuart graduated from SMU in 2011 and Rennick will graduate in 2012.

Kelly Welsh earned a B.A. degree in journalism from SMU in 1978. Mrs. Welsh serves on SMU's Parent Leadership Council. One of Mrs. Welsh's two sons, George '11, is an SMU student.

Mr. Welsh is senior managing director of Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors L.P. He earned a B.S. degree from Purdue University in 1973 and an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan in 1975. Mr. Welsh serves on SMU's Parent Leadership Council with his wife Kelly Allen Welsh '78.

James MacNaughton is retired from Rothschild Inc. as a senior advisor and former Global Partner. He serves on the boards of Max Capital Group, Ltd., Primus Guaranty, Ltd., Interboro Insurance Company and the International Advisory Council of Deutsche Insurance Asset Management (Deutsche Asset Management and Deutsche Bank). He also is a member of the board of WLIW21 New York Public Television. Mr. MacNaughton earned a B.A. degree in history in 1972 and an M.B.A. degree in 1973, both from SMU. He serves on the Executive Board and the Campaign Steering Committee for the Cox School of Business.

David Cush is president and CEO of Virgin America Airlines, a position he has held since 2007. Previously he served in a variety of senior positions at American Airlines, including senior vice president of global sales and vice president of American’s St. Louis hub. He also served as COO of Aerolineas Argentinas, the national carrier of Argentina. He earned B.S., B.F.A. and M.B.A. degrees from SMU.

Ms. Cole graduated from SMU with an undergraduate degree in French.  She is a past president of the SMU Alumni Association in Houston. She has had a 40-year association with the American Red Cross, first as a volunteer in Dallas and subsequently in various leadership positions in Houston and on national committees of the organization. Since 1986 she has served with the Arlington, Virginia, Red Cross chapter. After retirement, she continued to volunteer with the chapter and has also served on the boards of several other nonprofit organizations.

Juan Elek is founder and co-chairman of Elek, Moreno, Valley Associates. Mr. Elek serves on the SMU Board of Trustees and the Cox School of Business Executive Board. His son Pablo '01, '08 has B.B.A. and M.B.A. degrees from SMU.

Helmut Sohmen is chairman of BW Corporation Limited. He earned an M.C.L. degree from SMU in 1966. Dr. Sohmen serves on the SMU Board of Trustees and the Dedman School of Law Executive Board. In 2001 the Dedman School of Law honored him with the Robert G. Storey Award for Distinguished Achievement.
