Research Compliance Training

Training for Graduate Students

SMU Graduate Students must complete Research Compliance training in the following conditions.

Condition Required Training

An individual on an IACUC protocol

Animal Research Training is required prior to secure final approval from the IACUC and prior to entering the Laboratory Research Facility (LARC).

PI / PD, Co-PI, or key personnel on an IRB protocol.

Human Subjects Research Training is required prior to Institutional Research Board (IRB) approval.

Personnel on a Technology Control Plan (TCP)

Export Control Training is required prior to final approval of the TCP.

Federally Funded PhD Student

Responsible Conduct of Research in-person seminar must be completed in order to receive funding.

All other Graduate Students

Responsible Conduct of Research online training is strongly recommended.

Training for Faculty and Staff

SMU Faculty and Staff must complete Research Compliance training in the following conditions.

Condition Required Training

Submission of a proposal for external funding

Responsible Conduct of Research Training and Financial Conflicts of Interest Training are needed prior to submission of the proposal.

Online Training by CITI

Research Compliance training is offered via the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI Program). Training courses consist of 1 - 35 required modules, depending on your situation, and should take 30 minutes to 3 hours to complete. You may stop and resume the courses at your convenience. To begin the training, you may either log in to your existing account or create a new account.

Assistance with logging in to an existing account and adding the appropriate course(s)

Assistance with creating a new account and registering for the appropriate course(s)

Assistance with associating your existing account with your SMU credentials
