Anthology Portfolio (formerly Chalk & Wire) is a web-based system used by SMU for collecting and assessing student work in Common Curriculum. Please see further guidance by role below.

If you have questions about using Portfolio or creating or linking assignments in Canvas, please contact your ATSD.  For general questions about CC Assessment, please contact the Office of Institutional Planning and Effectiveness at assessment@smu.edu.

Getting Started

Faculty teaching in the Common Curriculum MUST include a Signature Assignment (paper, exam, report, project) and link those assignments to the Learning Outcomes for the CC Component tagged to the class. This must be completed each term that a course is taught, including intersessions.

The timeline for assessing the Common Curriculum is on a three-year cycle so that each general education component is assessed every 3 years. This allows for a more intentional process of collecting and analyzing data, identifying improvement strategies, and implementing those strategies. The Common Curriculum Assessment Calendar shows the components set to be assessed for AY2020-21 through AY2024-25.
