For each of the dozens of departments and divisions on campus, we use the method of Program Level Assessment. As a part of the regular strategic planning, faculty of each department determine a set of key Program Level Outcomes specific to their degrees, minors or certificates. They then assess the extent to which students achieve those learning outcomes, review the results of that assessment and plan strategic and continuous improvement.
Additionally, departments may have program outcomes such as rankings, post graduation job search results, admission to graduate programs, and number of faculty or students.
It's important to know the difference between direct and indirect measures. First priority is always on Direct Measures of Student Learning Outcomes. Indirect Measures may be used to support direct measures but cannot substitute for them.
