Instructions for Faculty

Instructions for Faculty

In the fall of 2019, DASS launched a digital platform called DASS Link designed to make the accommodation and test proctoring processes more streamlined for students, faculty and DASS.

We expect the transition to a digital platform to take time and effort and appreciate your patience as we develop this tool to convert a paper-heavy system into one that benefits DASS students, SMU faculty, and us!

In addition to the instructions below and in the menu to the right, here is a 3 minute video to help you get started.

Logging in

Go to the DASS Link log-in page. The header says Symplicity. Enter your SMU ID and password, just like when you log in to Canvas or my.SMU.

*Adjunct Instructors: If you are an adjunct faculty member and can’t log into DASS Link, we hope to have this issue resolved by 9/3/19. We hope to have all uploaded faculty in the system by then. This is related to hiring paperwork timelines and my.SMU. You can ask your student to show you their DASS letter on their laptop in the meantime.

Your Home Page

Once you’re logged in, you’ll see your DASS Link Home Page. Navigation tabs run along the left side of the page: Home, Accommodation Letters, Courses, Resources, and My Account.

You will also notice three sections: News Feed, where announcements and notifications will appear intermittently throughout the semester; Shortcuts, which contains links to frequently visited pages in DASS Link; and Helpful Websites, which contains links to frequently visited pages on the DASS website.

Navigating DASS Link: The Menu

Accommodation Letters

On this page, you will see a list of students enrolled in your class(es) who have requested that their accommodation letters be shared with you. The list is sortable by semester and course. (DETAILS & INSTRUCTIONS)

Selecting Courses brings you to a list of the courses you are teaching this semester. Clicking on a course opens a new page where you can access Course Details, Enrolled Students, and Test Proctoring. At this time, we recommend that you use this page only to access Test Proctoring (see below).

Test Proctoring

Via the Courses page, you can view student requests for tests to be proctored by DASS in the A-LEC. You can approve or deny proctored testing requests, give detailed proctoring instructions, and upload exams for DASS to administer. (DETAILS & INSTRUCTIONS)

The Resource Library contains useful forms, like flexible attendance agreements.

My Account

View your Profile, activate Accessibility Mode in Password/Preferences, and check your Activity Summary.

Known Bugs and their Status

  • Flexible attendance notifications: If you receive a Letter of Accommodation notifying you that a student has the accommodation of "flexible attendance," you will also receive 6 attached supporting documents. Due to a bug, 3 of these attachments are duplicates; please review the 3 original documents and disregard the duplicates.
  • Uploading tests: If you upload a test to the Test Room Booking Appointment for a student, DASS will likely print the exam within a short period of time thereafter. If you later upload a new, edited exam, we aren't receiving the associated alert, and we will not necessarily know there's a new version of your exam. Please email us directly to draw our attention to the change.
