Michael Robertson

Associate Provost for Continuing Education ad interim

Dr. Michael Robertson became the Associate Provost for Continuing Education ad interim at Southern Methodist University in August 2019. Michael RobertsonIn this position he works with a collaborative team throughout campus, building upon the ongoing vision of student-centered, external-facing educational offerings to enrich lives, foster innovation, and enhance productivity.

In this role, Michael provides university-wide leadership to prioritize, coordinate, support and grow continuing and extended education, creating strategy to build on notable previous efforts. He oversees continuing education programs and the Masters of Science in Data Science (MSDS); he additionally works with the new Continuing Education Program Council (CEPC), comprising the deans of academic units and chaired by the provost. Using the latest technological advances in teaching and learning, harnessing the synergies of a university-wide effort, and including those attending SMU online and at a distance, Michael and his team advance the university’s upward and outward trajectory while driving cutting-edge excellence and leadership.

About Michael Robertson

Prior to his current position, Dr. Michael Robertson was the Senior Academic Technology Services Director for Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences. He had broad responsibility for all tactical and strategic technology needs and goals related to teaching and research in the college. He joined Dedman College in March 2016.

Dr. Robertson’s expertise is in technology planning, user training, instructional design, eLearning systems, and emerging technologies. He has designed, developed, and delivered online and hybrid courses for over 10 years. Dr. Robertson has published and presented on topics including innovation diffusion, instructional delivery methods, assessing user needs, and digital gaming.

Prior to SMU, Dr. Robertson was Dean of eLearning at North Central Texas College where he oversaw all distance learning services, including systems administration, course development, and user training and support. Dr. Robertson has also served as an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Learning Technologies at the University of North Texas.
