Dr. Hugley-Cook became the first director of SMU’s Office of National Fellowships and Awards in 2006. In this position she oversees the University’s nominations and submission of both faculty and student candidacies for the most prestigious and competitive fellowships and awards at the national and international levels.
About Dr. Hugley-Cook
Dr. Hugley-Cook joined Southern Methodist University in 1982 as Assistant Dean for Student Academic Affairs in Dedman College, coming from The Johns Hopkins University where she was Assistant Director of Advising and Counseling. Previously, she had earned her B.A. in French at SMU, graduating magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, was awarded her Ph.D. in French Language and Literature at The Johns Hopkins University, and completed intensive executive management training at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business.
Before joining the Office of the Provost to create the University’s Office of National Fellowships, Dr. Hugley-Cook served as Assistant Dean and then Associate Dean for Student Affairs in Dedman College. She initiated a number of important programs, including starting the University’s Health Professions Recommendation Committee program, and serving as the inaugural director for the Hunt Leadership Scholars Program for its first decade of Scholars. She is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor of French, teaching courses in French literature (primarily 18th century and modern novel) and French language.
Dr. Hugley-Cook has been awarded the “M” Award, SMU’s highest honor for outstanding contributions to the University.
