Clinton Global Initiative University

SMU is a member of the Clinton Global Initiative University Network (CGI U), a consortium of colleges and universities that support, mentor, and provide seed funding to student leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs. Students commit to take action on some of the world's most pressing challenges.

SMU is one of more than 60 colleges and universities worldwide who have joined the CGI U network.

Who's it for?

for undergraduate and graduate students with an interest in tackling global issues related to education, environment, health, human rights and poverty alleviation

Through CGI U, SMU provides funding to student commitment-makers to get their projects started and attend the annual CGI U meeting held at a network university.

Liomari Diaz is implementing urban forestry in high-density areas that are impacted by heat island effects, lack of good air quality, and have large impervious surfaces to improve the quality of life there.
STEM+Z: THE MAKING OF AN UNDEAD APOCALYPSE
Cindy Hua is creating an after-school educational outreach program using apocalyptic zombie scenarios to teach middle school students STEM topics in low-income areas of Dallas County through hands-on craft activities, experiments, and demonstrations. 

WORD OF LOVE: AFFIRMING SPIRITUAL RESOURCES FOR LGBTQ CHRISTIANS
Rachel Mumaw is developing a phone app to provide affirming, spiritual resources to LGBTQ Christians living in hostile situations in the US, to allow them to safely reconcile their faith and sexuality.
