Student Engagement

Worship is an integral part of the Perkins experience. We meet for worship each Wednesday and Thursday, beginning at 11:30 am. These Perkins chapel services provide opportunities for students, faculty and staff to share in the rich diversity of worship experiences and traditions represented in our School of Theology community.

Morning Prayer is held Tuesday through Thursday mornings at 8:00 am. Oversight to the Perkins worship program is given by Rev. Dr. Mark W. Stamm, professor of Christian Worship, who works in concert with the Perkins Worship Committee. Please contact Dr. Stamm at 214-768-2447 or mstamm@smu.eduif you wish to be a part of this important work.

Seminary Singers

Seminary Singers, under the direction of Simon Hill, MSM ’17, is committed to deepening the worship life of the Perkins community and creating a supportive group of people who share the faith journey together through song. The Singers rehearse in Perkins Chapel on Wednesdays from 12:05 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. and sing in community worship twice each month during fall and spring terms. At the conclusion of the fall term, the Singers lead the annual Advent Worship Services on the first Thursday of December. At the end of the academic year, the Singers participate in the Perkins Diploma Ceremony on graduation day. The only requirements for membership are a love of music and singing and a willingness to participate on a regular basis. There are no auditions. While most students participate in Seminary Singers without credit, 1.5 credit-hours are available for participating for two consecutive terms. Regardless of credit, the Seminary Singers is the best place on campus to experience community through song. Seminary Singers is also a great way to serve the Perkins community, to remind yourself of why you are here and to worship God.
