"Servant of All: Status, Ambition, and the Way of Jesus"

with Dean Craig C. Hill

Presented at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 5501 Main Street, Houston, TX.

ABOUT

Dean Craig C. Hill will present a day-long course titled "Servant of All: Status, Ambition, and the Way of Jesus" at St. Paul's United Methodist Church (Houston, TX) on Saturday, February 22, 2020 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

COURSE DESCRIPTION |  A deep tension exists between the biblical view of servant leadership and the status that Christians today often desire and pursue. Why is it that Christians care so much what others think of us and what resources does the New Testament in particular provide us to confront this dilemma and proceed in a direction that conforms more to Jesus’ way of life? These and other related questions will be tackled in this day-long course.

BIO |  Craig Hill is the 11th dean of Perkins School of Theology. A New Testament scholar, Dean Hill previously served on the faculty of Duke Divinity School where he was executive director of the Doctor of Ministry and Master of Christian Practice programs. He was also a research professor of Theological pedagogy. Craig Hill is a native of Springfield, Illinois, and is an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church. He served for a decade in various pastoral appointments, including the chaplaincy of Christ Church, John Wesley’s undergraduate Oxford college. His publications include Hellenists and Hebrews: Reappraising Division within the Earliest Church,In God’s Time: The Bible and the Future, the Romans portion of The Oxford Bible Commentary, and Servant of All: Status, Ambition, and the Way of Jesus.
