October 15, 2018 - The ABC’s of Theology and Criminal Justice Reform on the Lives of School Children of Color: An Interdisciplinary Dialogue

Theology shapes the ethical practices of its religious institutions working for cultural, economic and social change for the common good. Criminal Justice Reform shapes how our society’s institutions uphold the protections to all of its citizens promised in the U.S. Constitution. How do theology and criminal justice reform influence the systemic conditions that set a path from school to prison for many children of color today?

August 2017 - Perkins School of Theology Launches Master of Theology in the Spanish Language
Perkins School of Theology launched a Master of Theology in the Spanish language in the fall of 2017, thanks to the sponsorship of the Center for the Study of Latino/a Christianity and Religions’ Luce Foundation grant.
The Center is fully funding five students and Perkins is partially funding three, for a total of eight students in this cohort
. The program of study offers two intensive courses each semester, taught in Spanish, with graduation in May of 2019. The student cohort is ecumenical and from Latin America whose experiences vary from congregational or agency ministry, denominational leadership, and seminary teaching. They have completed the equivalency of a Master of Divinity and are seeking to deepen their theological education, perhaps leading to a Ph.D. in the future. In addition to Perkins’ Latinx faculty, Dr. Carlos Cardoza-Orlandi, Dr. Hugo Magallanes and Dr. Harold J. Recinos, the faculty also include Dr. Efraín Agosto, Professor of New Testament from New York Theological Seminary, Dr. Denise DuPont, World Languages Professor of Spanish from SMU, and Dr. Mayra Rivera, Professor of Religion and Latina/o Studies from Harvard Divinity School.
