Public Faith|Personal Life Luncheon, Lecture, Colloquium with Michael Duffy: Feb. 7, 2014

The Bolin Family 2014 Public Life | Personal Faith Colloquium, Luncheon, and Lecture, hosted by Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University, features Michael Duffy, best-selling author and Deputy Managing Editor of TIME, for a lecture and colloquium Friday, February 7. Duffy is co-author, along with Nancy Gibbs, of two best-selling presidential histories: The President’s Club: Inside the World’s Most Exclusive Fraternity (2012), which spent 30 weeks on the New York Times Bestseller list, and The Preacher and the Presidents: Billy Graham in the White House (2007).

The Colloquium, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 9:30 – 10:30 am in the Great Hall of Elizabeth Perkins Prothro Hall, 5901 Bishop Boulevard, on the SMU campus. The colloquium offers a time for informal remarks from the speaker as well as Q&A from students, faculty members, and other attendees.

Reservations are required for the Luncheon and Lecture, which will be held from 12:00 – 1:30 pm in the Martha Proctor Mack Grand Ballroom, Umphrey Lee Center, 3300 Dyer Street, on the SMU campus.

The Public Life | Personal Faith event is sponsored for the second consecutive year by the family of Pat and Jane Bolin. Pat Bolin, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at EagleCorp and Eagle Oil & Gas Co. in Dallas, is a graduate of Southern Methodist University (B.A. ’73) and 2010 recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the SMU Cox School of Business.

The PL|PF series, inaugurated in 2010, is a fundraising and outreach event of Perkins School of Theology in service to the larger community. The lecture and colloquium provide an opportunity for participants to engage scholars on topics related to why and how personal faith shapes public life. “We are called to know, love, and serve God and neighbor in our daily lives through sharing the Gospel of truth, mercy, justice, and love,” explains Rev. Dr. Todd Rasberry, director of Development at Perkins. “Personal faith has practical consequences for the way we think, speak, make choices, and live our public lives.”
