Security Awareness Month is here!

October is National Security Awareness Month. Technology plays such an integral role in our daily lives—everything from paying bills to controlling our TV lineup is managed online. The wealth of information stored online about each one of us is staggering. Throughout the month of October, OIT will send you weekly emails that will help you increase your knowledge and awareness about cyber-security. Also, be sure to check our IT Connect blog regualarly for tips and tricks to keep you safe online.

Phishing Exercises Coming Soon. 

Just a reminder, SMU conducts a biannual simulated phishing exercise where the University sends an simulated phishing message to employees based on the types of phishing messages we have most recently received. Read how these exercises might affect you.

OE2C Shared Services Update 

It’s been eight weeks since the announcement was made regarding IT Shared Services. The OE2C office has identified several critical milestones for IT. Find out what they are and objectives of this new service model.

Password Managers

For those who are challenged with managing multiple different passwords for different accounts they might consider using a password manager, also known as a password vault. Find out how what they are and if you should use one.

SMU Mobile

Did you know SMU released its first official mobile application, SMU Mobile. This new app puts SMU in the palm of your hand. Find out how you can easily access variety of information about the university, including maps, news, events on campus, grades, and even the course catalog.

Wi-Fi Assist and Managing Cellular Data 

Apple recently released iOS 9 with a new feature called Wi-Fi Assist. Wi-Fi Assist allows the device to use cellular data to keep your internet connection active in areas where the Wi-Fi signal may not be very strong. Read how you can use this feature and limit your data overage charges.

Issues with
Apple's El Capitan
 

El Capitan (OSX 10.11) was recently released to the public by Apple. While it is exciting to be the first one to use a new OS, serveral companies urge you to wait. If you use ExamSoft, there issues with SofTest. Also, Office for Mac 2016 application suite are encountering frequent crashes.

SAS e-Learning Available

OIT is working with SAS to provide self-paced e-learning for users of SAS software. This SAS Education Analytical Suite will allow you to study SAS programming at your own pace and convenience, at no cost, from the comfort of your own computer.
