Instructions for Connecting to the Wireless Networks

Connect to PerunaNet (Windows OS)

Windows 10

  1. Click the network icon in the bottom-right corner of the taskbar, near the clock.
  2. From the list of available wireless networks, select PerunaNet.
  3. Make sure the Connect automatically box is checked, then click Connect.
  4. At the Continue connecting prompt, click Connect.
  5. When prompted, enter your SMU ID as your username and your SMU password.

In most cases your computer will configure the connection settings automatically. If the connection fails, you will need to check the advanced settings as follows:

Click the network icon in the bottom-right corner of the taskbar, near the clock.

  1. Click Network and Internet Settings.
  2. Click Network and Sharing Center.
  3. Click the Connection WiFi (PerunaNet).
  4. Click Wireless Settings.
  5. Click the Security tab.
  6. Select WPA2-Enterprise as the Security type.
  7. Select AES as the Encryption type.
  8. Network authentication should be Protected EAP (PEAP).
  9. Check Remember my credentials.
  10. Click Settings.
  11. Uncheck Enable Fast Reconnect.
  12. Click Configure.
  13. Uncheck “Automatically use my Windows logon name and password.”
  14. Click OK.
  15. Click OK.
  16. Attempt connecting again using the initial steps above. If connection continues to fail, contact the IT Help Desk at 214-768-4357.

Windows 7

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click Control Panel.
  3. Click Network and Sharing Center.
  4. Click Manage Wireless Networks.
  5. Right-Click on PerunaNet.
  6. Select Properties.
  7. Click the Security tab.
  8. Select WPA2-Enterprise as the Security type.
  9. Select AES as the Encryption Type.
  10. Network Authentication should be Protected EAP (PEAP).
  11. Click Settings.
  12. Uncheck Fast Reconnect.
  13. Click Configure.
  14. Uncheck "Automatically use my windows logon name and password" and click OK.
  15. Click OK to close the Protected EAP Properties window.
  16. Click the Advanced settings button.
  17. Check the box next to Specify authentication method.
  18. Select User Authentication from the drop down menu.
  19. Click Save Credentials.
  20. Enter your SMU ID# as the username and use your standard SMU password for password
  21. Click OK.
