Jason Warner is an experienced technology and higher education leader and innovator, with more than 15 years of focused experience in academic technology services devoted to improving technology experiences and outcomes of faculty and students related to teaching and research. Mr. Warner has demonstrated experience and leadership in the areas of faculty support, emerging educational technologies, learning space design, instructional technology, academic technology governance, pedagogical advancement and online education.
Prior to holding his current position, Mr. Warner served as Director of Technology for SMU’s Meadows School of Arts.
In his current role of SMU Director of Academic Technology Services, Mr. Warner leads SMU’s Course Management & eLearning Systems Operations team, devoted to sustaining and continually transforming campus online education and eLearning systems, capabilities and practices. Additionally, he oversees SMU’s team of Academic Technology Services Directors which, uniquely aligned with each academic area, identifies, develops, implements and supports both strategic and innovative technologies for the support and improvement of technology-based academic experiences required by varying disciplines.
As he has worked to reinvent and reassemble Academic Technology Services at SMU to more effectively manage the rapidity of technology change and to more strategically elevate services devoted to advancing online learning opportunities, his department is emerging as a benchmark for service excellence at SMU through a number of signature new programs and services designed to more regularly capture and respond to the technology needs of faculty and students. From the founding of SMU’s embedded academic team, to the smooth migration into SMU’s cloud-based course management system, to the upcoming acquisition and implementation of SMU’s new lecture capture and video-management platform, Mr. Warner’s vision of enabling faculty to employ the right technologies in any student-centered learning environments and of transforming and unifying SMU’s online education platforms and practices contributes to the expansion and improvement of teaching, learning and research experiences and outcomes at SMU that depend upon technology.
Mr. Warner holds a B.A. from Baylor University and an M.Ed. from Southern Methodist University.
