Guillermo Vasquez serves as the Linux & Research Computing Support Specialist for Southern Methodist University as part of OIT’s Academic Technology Services team, where he is responsible for directly supporting Linux-based computing systems, workstations and instructional computer labs between work-areas both inside Dedman College and the Lyle School of Engineering.
Mr. Vasquez is a Certified Ethical Hacker and Certified Hacking Forensics Investigator as designated by the International Council of Electronic Commerce Consultants (EC-Council); a Novell/SUSE Certified Linux Administrator (CLA) as designated by Micro Focus International (formerly Novell); and a Certified Linux Professional as designated by the Linux Professional Institute in UK (LPI).
Prior to working at SMU, Mr. Vasquez was lead professor of Linux, Intrusion Detection and Forensic Investigations at Western Tech in El Paso for almost a decade where he developed and administered the internet monitoring system for the ISS and EET departments. Guillermo served as Lead Cyber Security Instructor for Symantec CS3 North Texas, as well as founder of MIA Systems, providing rural wireless Internet access services in his native Chihuahua, Mexico and where he developed a platform for his research on the development of microwave radiators.
In addition to citing that “Linux” is his first language, Guillermo is a passionate photographer and an open source technology advocate who contributes code and white-papers within the open source community in the areas of robotics and cyber-security.
