(DALLAS) SMU – Experience Spain through flamenco dancing, music and hands-on art Saturday, April 18, at SMU's Meadows Museum's Passport to Spain, a free day of activities for the community. The event features the opening of the exhibition "The Abelló Collection: A Modern Taste for European Masters," in its U.S. debut in celebration of the Meadows Museum 50th anniversary.

A parade of colorful regional costumes will be presented April 18 by the Daniel de Córdoba Bailes Españoles Company at Passport to Spain at Meadows Museum.
Experience Spain through flamenco dancing, music and hands-on art April 18 at SMU. 

Passport to Spain will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Meadows Museum, 5900 Bishop Blvd. on the SMU campus. A free shuttle will transport visitors to the museum from the DART Mockingbird Station, 5465 E. Mockingbird Lane. For more information and to register visit smu.edu/communityday.

"The Abelló Collection: A Modern Taste for European Masters" (April 18- August 2): Empresario Juan Abelló and his wife, Anna Gamazo, have spent 30 years building one of the top private collections in Spain, a gathering of masterpieces by Spanish artists and international modern masters spanning five centuries. This exhibition presents 100 highlights from their collection, including works by Francis Bacon, Georges Braque, Marc Chagall, Salvador Dalí, Edgar Degas, Francisco Goya, El Greco, Henri Matisse, Joan Miró and Pablo Picasso.

For children: Children can make their own clay sculptures, cubist collages inspired by Spanish artist Pablo Picasso, princess crowns and knight's helmets. With passports in hand, they can visit the Spanish cities Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Seville through artwork in the Meadows galleries and take part in a sensory scavenger hunt introducing them to the textures and landscapes of Spain. A parade of colorful regional costumes will be presented by the Daniel de Córdoba Bailes Españoles Company.

Performances and Demonstrations
  10:30 a.m., 1 p.m.  Parade of regional costumes from Spain:
Ruffled dresses, lace mantillas and embroidered bolera jackets are cultural symbols of Spanish regions. Dancers from Daniel de Córdoba Bailes Españoles will model traditional Spanish costumes. Virginia Meadows Galleries.

 Operatic arias:
Meadows School of the Arts students will present arias from operas set in Spain, Carmen, The Barber of Seville, andFigaro. Bob and Jean Smith Auditorium. 
  11 a.m., Noon,
1 p.m. 		 Artist demonstration:
Painter John Bramblitt will demonstrate how he creates colorful paintings using only his sense of touch. Bob and Jean Smith Auditorium.
  11:30 a.m., 2 p.m.  Fiesta Flamenco: 
Daniel de Córdoba Bailes Españoles performs Spanish classical, regional and flamenco dances and music. Virginia Meadows Galleries.
  Noon  Dance: 
SMU MOVE, a Meadows School of the Arts dance service organization, will perform flamenco, contemporary and hip hop dance with members of the All Stars Project of Dallas. Museum Plaza.
