About: Perkins Youth School of Theology (PYST) celebrates its 10th anniversary with an Alumni Weekend featuring a special event highlighting the gifts and talents of young people from throughout the Metroplex.

Lessie Vonner, jazz trumpeter and alumni of both PYST and Booker T. Washington HSPVA will perform along with other music and spoken word artists.

Rev. Tonya Burton, director of the Perkins Youth School of Theology, said, “PYST gives young people opportunities to explore their gifts and use leadership skills in ways that benefit the lives of their churches and communities. When youth realize they have a voice and can be agents of change, they start to see themselves differently.  They realize that God has a purpose for them and they want to make life count!”

PYST is one of 45 theological programs for high school youth at universities and seminaries across the United States and Canada. These programs were developed with a grant from the Lilly Endowment, Inc. to support theological education with high school youth.
