SMU vies for Southern Living’s top tailgating spot

SMU’s hospitable Prada-meets-cowboy boots tailgating style — ahem, “boulevarding” — has the potential to be No. 1 in a Southern Living face-off of 20 Southern colleges and universities with legendary pre-game fetes.

DALLAS (SMU) — SMU’s hospitable Prada-meets-cowboy boots tailgating style — ahem, “boulevarding” — has the potential to be No. 1 in a Southern Living face-off of 20 Southern colleges and universities with legendary pre-game fetes. “From sundresses to cake stands, these schools showcase true splendor in the grass,” the magazine notes.

The Boulevard at SMUIn the “South’s Best Tailgate” competition, SMU places in the “Style Setter” category, since Mustang fans’ barbecue spreads are known for having such sides as flat-screen surround-sound TVs and well-dressed partiers.

Voting is open until Oct. 1, and one lucky entrant will win $2,500.

One vote per person per day is allowed online or mobile phone, but take note that on game days, each entry counts twice for both the voter and selected school. Here’s how to participate:

  • Go online: Visit www.southernliving.com/tailgate. Entries must be received by 10:59 p.m. CST/11:59 p.m. EDT Oct. 1.
       
  • Use a mobile “smartphone”: Download a QR reader application from iTunes or gettag.mobi. Open the app, hold the camera over SMU’s QR code in the September 2012 issue of Southern Living, and follow the on-screen instructions. Message and data rates may apply. Entries must be received by 10:59 p.m. CST/11:59 EDT Oct. 1.
       
  • To only enter sweepstakes: Send as many postcards as you'd like with your name and address to Southern Living “The South’s Best Tailgate Party” Sweepstakes, c/o The US Sweepstakes & Fulfillment Co., 625 Panorama Trail, Suite 2100, Rochester, NY 14625. Each postcard must be mailed separately and postmarked between by Oct. 1 and received by Oct. 9.
