DISD announces 19 hires in district shakeup

DALLAS — The Dallas Independent School District has announced the hiring of 19 new administrators to fill spots opened up earlier this year as part of a major overhaul by the district.
 
Half of the administrators hired have ties to the Dallas area or the district; the rest come from across the region or the country.
 
"I think it's a good sign when people come from around the area and want to work for Dallas ISD," said DISD Superintendent Mike Miles.
 
Among the new hires was former Fort Worth administrator Sylvia Reyna, who will earn $198,000 a year as the Dallas ISD's chief of school leadership.
 
The district has filled its five assistant superintendent positions, which includes keeping long-time district employee Shirley Ison-Newsome on board.
 
It has locked up 13 of 20 executive director positions, who will oversee principals.
 
"These are the kind of people who have a track record of managing their positions and their schools for student outcomes," said David Chard.
 
Chard is the dean of SMU's Simmons School of Education and Human Development.
 
He said it appears that Miles hired people who share his education philosophy, and have had success where they worked.
 
"There are many powerful leaders in this group who have demonstrated success," Chard said....
