The Willis M. Tate Distinguished Lecture Series and the Hart Global Leaders Forum present respected journalists and authors this week talking about current events.

Tate kicks off its 28th season Tuesday (Sept. 8) with Thomas L. Friedman, Fareed Zakaria and David Gergen. The three will answer questions from the audience at The Turner Construction Student Forum at 4:30 p.m. in the Hughes-Trigg Student Center Ballroom. They also will give The Linda and Mitch Hart Lecture at 8 p.m. Tuesday in McFarlin Auditorium, with Gergen serving as moderator.

In addition, Zakaria will present the Hart Global Leaders Forum at 11 a.m. Wednesday (Sept. 9) in the Hughes-Trigg Student Center Theater. Tickets are not required.  Admittance is first-come, first served.

Journalist Fareed ZakariaZakaria , editor of Newsweek International since 2000, is responsible for the magazine’s overseas editions. He also writes a Newsweek column that appears in The Washington Post. In 2008 he began hosting a foreign affairs program, Fareed Zakaria GPS, for CNN Worldwide. He is the author of The Post American World, The Future of Freedom and From Wealth to Power and co-editor of The American Encounter.

Journalist Tom FriedmanFriedman has been foreign affairs columnist for The New York Times since 1995. After joining The Times in 1981, he served as bureau chief in Beirut and later in Jerusalem. He has won three Pulitzer Prizes — for commentary in 2002, for international reporting from Israel in 1988 and for international reporting from Lebanon in 1983. His books include Hot, Flat, and Crowded; The World Is Flat; Longitudes and Attitudes; The Lexus and the Olive Tree; and From Beirut to Jerusalem.

Journalist David GergenGergen has served as a commentator, editor, teacher, and presidential adviser over the past three decades. His best-selling book, Eyewitness to Power: The Essence of Leadership, Nixon to Clinton, presents his perspectives as adviser to four presidents — Nixon, Ford, Reagan, and Clinton. Gergen currently is editor-at-large of U.S. News & World Report and a frequent television analyst.
