A team of 16 students from the Temerlin Advertising Institute at SMU’s Meadows School of the Arts won “Best Media Plan” honors and second place in the district competition of the American Advertising Federation 2020 National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) in late April. Temerlin’s team competed against 16 other colleges and universities in the 10th district, which includes Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas.

For the NSAC competition, considered the “College World Series of Advertising,” each student team created a comprehensive business-to-business campaign for Adobe to raise awareness of their programmatic advertising platform, Adobe Experience Cloud for Advertising.

Due to the coronavirus, the campaign was created via Slack and Zoom by Temerlin students based in 13 different cities, five states, and two countries, and the final product was presented to judges in an online competition.

“I am incredibly proud of the smart strategy, creative platform and media plan our team put together in spite of the difficulties created by the pandemic,” said Amber Benson, executive-in-residence at Temerlin Advertising Institute and the SMU NSAC faculty advisor. “Business-to-business campaigns are a special challenge, and the fact that we won ‘Best Media Plan’ is a testament to the entire team."
