Meadows faculty, staff, students and alumni will be busy participating in projects and performances during the second annual Dallas Arts Week
During the city’s second annual Dallas Arts Week April 10-18, 2015, Meadows School of the Arts faculty, staff, students and alumni will be busy showing their work, attending the Dallas Art Fair, presenting an original play and more.
April 11-12
2015 Dallas Art Fair
M.F.A. art student Dylan Cale Jones will be in Galleri Urbane’s booth April 11-12; his solo exhibition will be at the Galleri Urbane in Dallas in September 2015. This year’s Dallas Art Fair, featuring over 90 prominent national and international art dealers and galleries, will be held at the Fashion Industry Gallery, adjacent to the Dallas Museum of Art.

The Consortium
In conjunction with the Dallas Art Fair, grad students and faculty from SMU, UTA and UTD present The Consortium, an exhibition at 500 Singleton Blvd. April 10-12. Participating Meadows art students include Daniel Berthalot, Andy Davis, Diamond Gray, Anansi Knowbody and Olivia Martin. Slideluck
The Meadows arts and urbanism initiative is co-sponsoring Slideluck Dallas with the AT&T Performing Arts Center at Annette Strauss Square on Saturday, April 11 from 7 to 10 p.m. It’s an evening dedicated to strengthening community through food and art; guests bring potluck meals and enjoy a slideshow of works by 20-25 local artists, including Meadows art alum Kevin Todora.

South Dallas Strings
Bridge the Gap Chamber Players, founded by 10 SMU Meadows music alumni and current students in 2011, launches its new South Dallas Strings initiative at Community Day in Fair Park. The initiative aims to bring the group’s eclectic brand of chamber music to kids in South Dallas elementary and middle schools. The launch event includes an “instrument petting zoo” and more. Saturday, April 11, Fair Park Hall of State, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

“Palestine, Texas” Exhibit at The Reading Room
An exhibit by artist Noah Simblist, chair and associate professor of art at SMU Meadows,
tells the para fictional history of a small American town where the utopian location of Zion can always be found on the horizon and catastrophe is always underfoot. Related discussion will take place 4-6 p.m. Sunday, April 12; exhibit runs through April 25. The Reading Room, 3715 Parry Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75226.

Conversation: Art Biennial Prospect.3, with Franklin Sirmans and Noah Simblist
Noah Simblist, chair and associate professor of art at SMU Meadows, will interview Franklin Sirmans, curator of contemporary art at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, about Sirmans’ work as the artistic director of art biennial Prospect.3 in New Orleans. Prism
Paint will fly at the production of Prism at the Trinity Groves Green Warehouse April 9-26. Prism is a movement theatre piece created by Meadows alum Jeffrey Colangelo (B.F.A. Theatre ’13) and current student Katy Tye (B.F.A. Theatre ’15) that reveals the creation of civilization in three stages: darkness, light and color.
