Meadows faculty member Trey Bowles named to Dallas Business Journal's 2014 "Top 40 Under 40" list of Business Professionals

Bowles teaches entrepreneurship classes, co-founded Dallas Entrepreneur Center

Trey Bowles, adjunct lecturer in the Meadows School’s Division of Arts Management and Arts Entrepreneurship, has been named one of the top “40 Under 40” business professionals in Dallas for 2014 by the Dallas Business Journal.

Each year, the Dallas Business Journal seeks highly accomplished executives and entrepreneurs under the age of 40 for its “40 Under 40” recognition program. To qualify, candidates must be 39 years old or younger as of May 30, 2014 and have a proven track record in both business and community involvement. According to the Journal, “We look for executives who really shine — innovators, deal makers, influential leaders who excel in their respective companies and industries and show dynamic leadership in their communities.”

At SMU, Bowles teaches Social Entrepreneurship and Accelerate Your Startup classes, where teams of students are given actual investment funding to help make their businesses viable.  These courses build on Meadows’ commitment to arts entrepreneurship and the unique minor in this area.

In addition, Bowles is the co-founder and CEO of the Dallas Entrepreneur Center, chair for Startup America, and co-founder of the Mayor’s Star Council in Dallas.

Founded in 2013, the Dallas Entrepreneur Center (DEC) teaches entrepreneurs how to start, build and grow businesses through training, education, mentorship, promotion and capital investment. Bowles also works closely with the Startup America Partnership, a nonprofit organization started by Steve Case and the Kauffman Foundation, leading a team of entrepreneurial experts across the state to help high-growth startups find greater success.

In addition, Bowles cofounded the Mayor’s Star Council with Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings to find a culturally diverse and civically minded group of emerging leaders seeking to embrace and engage the City of Dallas.
