Megan Riegel, Meadows Alum, Receives Highest Civilian Honor in South Carolina

SMU's Megan Riegel presented with prestigious "Order of the Palmetto"

A few weeks ago, Megan Riegel received the highest civilian honor in South Carolina. The Meadows alum (she has an M.F.A from us, as well as an M.B.A. from SMU’s Cox School of Business), in recognition for her lifetime of work in the arts and running the Peace Center for the Performing Arts, was presented with The Order of the Palmetto. Only a few thousand people have received the award in the past 40 years.

So, the title is regal, but the honor is beyond worthy: she’s bolstered the fundraising program for the Peace Center by hundreds of thousands of dollars, renovated and expanded (which includes a 140-seat cabaret and a 1,200 seat outdoor amphitheater). Following Meadows and SMU, Riegel laser-focused on the performing arts. She’s headed up development of the Actor’s Fund of America, the Philadelphia Drama Guild and the Curtis Institute of Music.

World changers, indeed.
