Note from Dean Bowen
"The weather forecast (further below) is for continued rain and lightening. I’m sorry, but we need time to set up and we can’t set up in the rain—we use all of our most expensive audio equipment that we need for shows and we can’t risk that or the personnel to set up in a thundershower. Even if it clears the ground will be too wet, and we can’t set up for both outdoor and indoor at the same time, so we have to decide today. I’m sorry, but the smaller indoor ceremonies were lovely last year and everyone had a great time."
Latest Weather Report (updated Friday, May 14 3:45 p.m.)
Showers and thunderstorms will continue through the rest of today, and into much of the weekend. Flash flooding and heavy rainfall is a possibility.
The cold front/warm front has continued to slosh back and forth across North Texas, and is currently located between Abilene, Wichita Falls, and Tulsa. Areas near this boundary will have the necessary moisture, instability, and lift to produce showers and embedded thunderstorms. This boundary will move little over the weekend, and will lead to scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms.
There is a possibility of a few thunderstorms which could produce large hail and/or strong winds anywhere across North Texas. Heavy rainfall and flash flooding are more of a concern, especially for this afternoon and evening in the areas north and west of the Metroplex. Flash flood warnings and River flood warnings are likely with this system, to go along with the potential for severe thunderstorm warnings.
Showers and thunderstorms are ongoing. Thunderstorm chances remain in the forecast through Sunday.
FORECAST CONFIDENCE / UNCERTAINTY
Thunderstorms: High confidence in occurrence. High confidence in area
Severe Thunderstorms: Low confidence in occurrence. Low confidence in area.
Heavy rainfall: High confidence in occurrence. Moderate confidence in area.
Most days, the cap strength is the key limiting factor. This forecast has high confidence that heavy rainfall will occur, especially near the frontal boundary. The boundary’s location then becomes the key limiting factor for today’s forecast. If the front moves further north or south than anticipated, the heavy rainfall area will follow.
A flash flood watch has been issued for the affected areas northwest of the Metroplex. Emergency management and local officials should continue to monitor National Weather Service forecasts, graphics, and other official information that could further refine the affected areas through the weekend. Spotter activation is possible to the west of I-35 this afternoon. However, spotter activation is expected to be limited.
