Lauren Smart

Lauren Smart is an arts writer and critic. She writes about the visual, literary and performing arts for The Dallas Morning News. She has worked as an editor for the Dallas Observer, the city alt weekly, and Arts + Culture Texas, a statewide magazine. Her work has appeared in numerous local and national publications including D Magazine, American Theatre magazine and Cowboys & Indians. She oversaw the development and implementation of Storytellers Without Borders, a Dallas Public Library initiative that transforms high school students into community journalists using 21st century library resources. The initiative is funded by the Knight Foundation in collaboration with The Dallas Morning News. Smart has published poetry in several literary journals. She holds a master’s in arts journalism from Syracuse University and bachelor’s degrees in journalism and English from Southern Methodist University.
