Troy Perkins received an M.F.A. in Film Production at New York University. He came to SMU’s Film and Media Arts division in 2015 following several years of teaching at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, where he received tenure and full professor promotions. There, he wrote and directed four short films that received national awards. His current creative work focuses on screenwriting for film and series development, along with embracing new technologies, such as scriptwriting for virtual reality. His feature screenplay, Solomon’s Train, was optioned by Echo Lake Entertainment and since arriving to SMU, he has written two series pilot scripts, Outpost and The Inquisitor, along with the award-winning short film script, Crossing. Over the past four years, he has been developing his low-budget feature film, The High Road, with the cooperation of the SMU in Taos campus and the Picuris Pueblo tribe of northern New Mexico.
